Authors: Nikolay Polissky
Location & Date: Village of Nikola-Lenivets, Kaluga Region, 2000
Size: height 9m, 14m base diameter, 7 spiral ramps.
Material: 30 tons of hay
The structure resembles Mesopotamian ziggurat, but made from wooden bases on which hay was laid along spiral ramps. Hay Tower is the first project where collaboration with ‘common peasants’ became narrative part of it. From now on, Polissky is working with a team of “Nikola-Lenivets Art Trades”, with whome he makes all his project and travels abroad.
The Tower was supposed to be used to feed the cattle, but the hay began to rot and so the tower had to be ‘ceremonially’ burnt – the concluding performance in this project.
